Most IT environments immature, Microsoft reveals

Most business IT environments are immature, analysis of data from Microsoft’s Cloud Security Readiness Tool has revealed.

Launched last October, the tool is an online survey of 27 questions drawn from that Cloud Security Alliance’s Cloud Controls Matrix, and is aimed at helping enterprises to assess their current IT environments and how they could benefit from best-practice cloud services.

Zero-day market, the governments are the main buyers

Governments, and in particular US one, are principal buyers of zero-day vulnerabilities according a report published by Reuters.
Zero-days exploits are considered a primary ingredient for success of a cyber attack, the knowledge of zero-day flaw gives to the attacker guarantee of success, state-sponsored hackers and cyber criminals consider zero-day exploits a precious resources around which is grown a booming market.

Is antivirus worth the investment?

Only 8% of European companies plan to decrease spending on antivirus (AV) in 2013, compared with 21% that will increase their investment in this area, according to a recent poll by Computer Weekly.

This is a worrying trend, because some types of AV can actually cause more harm than good. This notion is not new, and the ineffectiveness of signature-based AV in particular has received substantial attention.
